Dairy Product Abundance Enhances Food Security During Ramadan with Over 2.6 Million Tons of Production

The Ministry of Environment, Water, and Agriculture has revealed that dairy products are witnessing a notable abundance in the markets, with production exceeding 2.6 million tons. This reflects the vital role of the sector in meeting consumer needs during the holy month of Ramadan.

This announcement was made as part of an awareness campaign launched by the ministry in conjunction with Ramadan, under the theme “Our Table from Our Land.” The campaign aims to encourage the consumption of locally produced dairy products, such as cream, yogurt, milk, and other derivatives, while also highlighting the role of farmers and producers in ensuring food security. The ministry emphasized its efforts to support national production, enhance food quality and safety, and maintain product availability throughout the holy month.

As part of the campaign, the ministry stated that Saudi Arabia achieved 129% self-sufficiency in dairy production in 2023, reinforcing its position as a key producer in the dairy sector. The ministry also reaffirmed its commitment to improving the industry’s quality by supporting local investments, ensuring market supply, and enhancing product standards in alignment with the goals of Saudi Vision 2030.

Additionally, the ministry highlighted that the livestock sector is a fundamental pillar supporting dairy production in the Kingdom, comprising more than 7.4 million goats and approximately 502,000 cows. This contributes significantly to meeting local market demand for dairy products. The ministry noted that the sector is experiencing remarkable development through the adoption of advanced livestock farming and animal production technologies, which boost production efficiency and resource sustainability.

The campaign also aims to raise public awareness about responsible food consumption, reducing waste, and promoting the optimal use of available food resources. It seeks to encourage local product consumption and support national farmers and producers, ensuring the sustainability of food production and strengthening food security in Saudi Arabia.
