Inspiring from the Greek Experience to Develop the Sheep and Goat Sector in KSA

As part of its ongoing efforts to strengthen food security and enhance the efficiency of local production, the National Program for the Development of the Livestock and Fisheries Sector organized an official visit to the Hellenic Republic, with the participation of a group of Saudi investors. The goal was to explore Greece’s experience in sheep and goat farming and to identify opportunities for cooperation and the exchange of successful practices.

The visit included field tours to observe the latest technologies in farm management, such as sensor systems for monitoring herd health, genetic improvement techniques, and artificial insemination. It also covered advanced practices in feed production and value-added industries like cheese making and the development of animal products.

The Saudi delegation also discussed with their Greek counterparts the potential for importing high-efficiency breeds and adapting them to the local environment, as well as ways to enhance veterinary services, marketing strategies, and logistics chains — all aligned with the goals of Saudi Vision 2030 to boost production and achieve sustainability.

The National Program emphasized that this initiative reflects the Kingdom’s commitment to strengthening international partnerships and leveraging global best practices to advance the livestock sector, support food security, and diversify sources of income.
