The first day of the “Ruminant Expert Tour: The Unexpected Power of Fiber”, organized by Lallemand Animal Nutrition, commenced today at the iconic Bibliotheca Alexandrina in Alexandria, Egypt. This two-day event, dedicated to exploring the crucial role of fiber in dairy nutrition, began with an array of thought-provoking sessions led by internationally recognized experts.
The morning session opened with a welcome speech from Dr. Joe Agnatios , Lallemand’s Business Area Manager Africa & Middle East. He set the stage by emphasizing the importance of innovative strategies in advancing ruminant nutrition.
Highlights of the Day:
1. Bill Woodley (Woodley Dairy Direction) provided foundational insights into the definitions and dynamics of fiber in dairy diets.
2. Franck Kuechenmeister (Lallemand’s International Technical Support Manager) discussed the agronomic factors influencing fiber composition.
3. Dr. Mohammed Bakr (Assistant Professor, Cairo University) shared practical guidance on silage production.
4. Aurélien Piron (Global Technical Manager, Lallemand) addressed the management of rumen fermentation and digestion.
The program also featured engaging workshops and poster presentations, offering participants hands-on experiences in silage preparation and strategies for improving rumen health. Adding a cultural dimension to the event, attendees had the opportunity to explore the historic Bibliotheca Alexandrina.
