ONAB Unveils Support Measures for Poultry Farmers to Ensure White Meat Availability and Price Stability During Ramadan

Algeria

The National Office for Animal Feed and Poultry Breeding (ONAB) announced a series of practical measures aimed at supporting poultry farmers and ensuring production continuity and stability in the national market, in preparation for the holy month of Ramadan. These measures follow the signing of a framework agreement between the ONAB Group and the National Federation of Poultry Farmers.

The agreement, signed at the headquarters of the General Directorate of the Food and Logistics Industries Group “AGROLOG,” seeks to accompany farmers and provide stable production conditions that guarantee the availability of white meat at reasonable prices during Ramadan. This initiative is part of broader efforts to protect consumers’ purchasing power and contribute to market regulation.

Under these measures, poultry farmers will benefit from one-day-old chicks at a subsidized price of 80 dinars, in addition to the supply of feed required for the various rearing stages at carefully studied and competitive prices, applied across feed production units related to the ONAB Group.

The agreement also stipulates that chicken production will be purchased by the group’s slaughterhouses at a fixed price of 280 dinars per kilogram, providing farmers with clearer visibility regarding the marketing of their products and enhancing the stability of their activities.

As for farmers who operate their own feed production units, ONAB confirmed that they will benefit from the supply of raw materials—particularly corn and soybean meal—according to their production needs. This step aims to support national production capacities and reduce costs.

ONAB clarified that the supply of raw materials, especially corn and soybean meal, will be carried out at prevailing market prices, while poultry feed will be marketed according to the prices applied at the group’s production units.

These measures fall within a broader strategy to support the poultry farming sector and provide on-the-ground assistance to farmers, ensuring product availability and price stability during Ramadan and contributing to a sustainable balance in the national market.
