Algeria- “Sheep Dates” – An Innovative Product for Livestock Fattening in Biskra
The Scientific and Technical Research Center for Arid Areas in the Algerian province of Biskra has developed an innovative livestock feed known as “Sheep Dates.” This product is specifically designed to support the fattening of sheep and other livestock and has been officially granted a patent.
The feed is produced by valorizing date by-products, transforming agricultural waste into a high-value nutritional resource. This approach not only enhances animal nutrition but also contributes to the sustainable use of local agricultural resources.
One of the main objectives of this innovation is to reduce reliance on imported feed, such as feed corn, which represents a significant financial burden for livestock farmers. By offering an effective local alternative with good nutritional value, “Sheep Dates” can help lower feeding costs and improve the profitability of livestock farming.
This achievement reflects the ability of Algerian researchers to deliver practical solutions that strengthen food security, promote sustainability, and bridge the gap between scientific research and agricultural practice.
